An Absurd Easter: SF’s Bring Your Own Big Wheel

Easter is a wacky holiday in San Francisco.

If you don't have plans to attend the Hunky Jesus contest in Mission Dolores park, I recommend attending Big Your Own Big Wheel in Potrero Hill.

The race started as a small event on Lombard Street, led by Jon Brumit. It soon blossomed into an organized event with hundreds of participants and spectators. I attended for the first time in 2019 and it was incredible!

Participants ride down Vermont Street in a big wheel of their selection, typically in costume. The adults reach high speeds, participate in themed groups, and very often surpass the weight limit of the big wheels- comically spiraling out or slowly making their way down the hill on one or two remaining wheels.

If you attend this absurdly entertaining event to start your Easter holiday, you'll have plenty of amazing stories to share with your family during Easter dinner afterwards.
