Orange Skies

September 9, 2020.

Apocalyptic skies for an apocalyptic year. Wildfires throughout Northern California and the Pacific Northwest generated enough smoke to blanket the Bay Area, which was mercifully protected from smoke and ash by our marine layer. Only the longest wavelengths of sunlight could penetrate the smoke and fog, creating the orange glow. Surprisingly, it was a day of fairly good air quality, although a general uneasiness was felt by all.

Here are two photos from the day- my fire escape and my desk, overlooking the city.
